Girls Can Play Baseball with launch of new Girls program
T-Ball is a great introduction to baseball in a fun safe environment for children under 9 years of age. Players hit off a tee, rotate through fielding positions and learn a diamond sport in a safe and fun environment.
Little League is the first step into baseball from teeball or for players who have not played a diamond sport before. The Minor division exposes and teaches younger players the concepts associated with hitting a moving ball, as well as teaching proper throwing and fielding techniques. This division is designed for players in the lower age of the Little League bracket. The game is played on a 60 foot diamond.
Little League Major division exposes and teaches players further concepts associated with hitting a moving ball, as well as other fielding techniques. This division is designed for players in the higher age of the Little League bracket. The game is played on a 60 foot diamond. Stronger players are encouraged to try out for Club Championships and Charter teams when playing this division.
The Intermediate League division is played on a 70 foot diamond and is the first division where players are allowed to lead off when on base. Other rules, such as pitcher balking and batter bunting also come into play in this division. Players should be familiar with the rules of baseball, and are able to listen and follow their coaches instructions both at training and in games.
The Junior League division is played on an 80 foot diamond and builds strongly on those concepts learned in the Intermediate League division. This is a highly competitive division and players are exposed to other very strong teams within the competition. Players at this level are expected to have a moderate skill level, work ethic and knowledge of baseball.
The Senior League division is played on a 90 foot diamond, which is the senior size diamond. This is also a highly competitive division. Players at this level are expected to have a high skill level, work ethic and strong knowledge of baseball. From this division, players are encouraged to train or play with the senior teams, where possible.
The Big League division is played on a 90 foot diamond. This is a highly competitive and large division, where teams are spread out over the metropolitan area, though fixtures take this into account. Players at this level are expected to have a very high skill level, work ethic and strong knowledge of baseball. This division is split into two, Div 1 and Div 2, and is a stepping stone into senior baseball. From this division, players are highly encouraged to train and play with the senior teams to expose them to a high skill level of baseball and committment.
Club Ball is our social and casual level of baseball for our junior players and is played on a Saturday. The focus for club ball is on development, inclusiveness and participation.
In the lower grades, players are encouraged to play competitively; however the focus is not on winning but rather on skills development, fitness, inclusion and team spirit. In higher grades, such as Junior League and above, the competition increases and the focus balances success, as well as development and inclusiveness.
Club Championships is a series of games between clubs, where players are exposed to a higher level of competition, usually a round of 6 games, with finals.
In comparison to club ball, where development and participation are the main focus, the Club Championships is more focused on competition and attempting to reach the finals. Club championships is available for Little League, Junior League and Senior League divisions. This competition is run on Saturday evenings.
All players are also encouraged to play at a state charter level within the Eastern Phantoms Charter. The Eastern Phantoms Charter is the amalgamation of Wembley, Perth and Morley Baseball Clubs and is represented by the team name, Eastern Phantoms.
The Eastern Phantoms is a team selected from eligible players from each club. Players are required to attend tryouts and the best from each club are chosen to represent the Eastern Phantoms team at the state championships, and if successful at the national championships.
Team selections occur for Little League, Intermediate Leaguee, Junior League and Senior League and normally start in early November.
The Tiger Programs consists of Tiger Academy teams participating at:
Players are to be aged between 12 and 16 years of age, and are to be nominated for teams as per their age. To participate, players must not have been picked in their respective charter teams. (All players 12- 15 are eligible for the tour.)
This is a high performance chosen team where players are chosen to represent WA at a National competition. This is run by Baseball WA, so follow their website or facebook to ensure you get information when it is published.
